As 2025 comes to an end, the Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation looks back with gratitude and pride on a year marked by strong partnerships, meaningful actions, and lives positively impacted. More than a series of initiatives, 2025 was a year of human connection, shared responsibility, and hope renewed. At the core of everything we do remains one belief: every child deserves access to education, dignity, and a supportive environment in which to thrive. Betta Place: Investing in Students Beyond the Classroom Through our Betta Place program, more than 30 students took part in Hygiene and Health workshops, equipping them with essential knowledge to protect their well-being and adopt healthy habits. These sessions go beyond theory—empowering students with life skills that contribute to confidence, responsibility, and long-term success. In addition, 7 Betta Place beneficiaries received school scholarships, ensuring continuity in their education and reinforcing our commitment to supporting vulnerable children throughout their academic journey. Rentrée des Héros 2025: Education at Scale with School4All One of the highlights of the year was the Rentrée des Héros 2025, implemented in partnership with School4All by Orange Foundation Cameroon. This initiative made a tangible difference across communities: As part of this same program, we also invested in the people who make education possible every day—teachers. Through targeted training sessions, more than 40 teachers were trained in practical, hands-on pedagogical approaches, strengthening the quality of teaching and ensuring sustainable impact far beyond a single school year. Check out the video summaries of these events made by Axe Media: La Rentrée des Héros 2025 PTN Foundation in Ebolowa PTN trains 70 teachers in Ebolowa Noël des Héros: A Moment of Joy and Solidarity in Bertoua Because education cannot flourish without dignity and care, 2025 also reminded us of the power of solidarity. Our Noël des Héros event was held in the Eastern Region of Cameroon, in Bertoua, specifically in the Centre de Promotion de la Femme et de la Famille (Center for the Advancement of Women and Families). This was in partnership with FAJEFIM (Shelter for Teenage Mothers). This celebration brought together over 400 people, representing 70 families, in a warm and joyful atmosphere. During this special moment: More than assistance, it was a true moment of sharing, dignity, and collective joy—a reminder that community and compassion are just as powerful as material support. Thank You for Building Impact With Us None of these achievements would have been possible without the trust and commitment of our partners, donors, volunteers, educators, and supporters. We extend our heartfelt thanks to: And to every individual and organization who supported our mission throughout the year Your engagement made 2025 a year of meaningful impact. Together, we continue to build brighter futures—one child, one family, and one community at a time. We look ahead with hope, determination, and renewed commitment for the years to come.
La Rentrée des Héros 2025 Recap: Expanding Educational Access in Cameroon
In September 2025, the Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation proudly launched the second edition of its back-to-school project, La Rentrée des Héros, in partnership with Orange Foundation Cameroon through their School4All initiative. This project has quickly become one of our foundation’s cornerstones. In our first edition of La Rentrée des Héros in the Centre Region of Cameroon, we introduced the vision behind the initiative: ensuring that every child, regardless of their background, has access to quality learning materials and the chance to thrive in school. Why the South Region? For 2025, we chose to expand to the South Region of Cameroon, specifically Ebolowa 1 and 2. As explained in our article on why the South Region was selected for La Rentrée des Héros 2025, this choice was both strategic and impactful. The area faces persistent educational challenges but also shows great promise. By bringing the project here, we aim to close learning gaps and give children the resources they need to succeed. Project Implementation Before the launch, our team carried out several descents on site to meet with local authorities and community leaders. These consultations helped us establish a list of 35 schools where the project would be implemented. This year’s plan was more ambitious than ever, with support from Orange Foundation Cameroon: In addition, we introduced a new component: teacher training sessions. Teachers are being trained on how to manage and preserve the shared supplies so that these materials can serve multiple pupils across several years. This sustainability-focused approach ensures that the impact of the project extends beyond one school year and benefits more than one generation of learners. The Inauguration Ceremony The project was officially launched on September 10th, 2025, with a beautiful inauguration ceremony at the Government Primary School Amvam-Yevol in Ebolowa 1. The event was attended by local authorities, school representatives, and members of the community. We were honored to also welcome several TV channels, who helped share this story across Cameroon. Our media partner Axe Media provided extensive coverage, helping to amplify the project’s reach: The atmosphere was warm, hopeful, and deeply motivating. The joy on the children’s faces reminded us why we carry this mission forward: every effort, every challenge, every moment of preparation was worth it. Beyond the Ceremony The inauguration was only the start. Throughout September, our team visited the different selected schools across Ebolowa 1 and 2 to continue the distribution of school kits and manuals. With every stop, we saw firsthand the transformative effect of giving children the right tools to succeed. Gratitude and the Road Ahead We are profoundly grateful to everyone who made this possible – from our on-the-ground team to our partners and supporters near and far. Together, we took a significant step toward educational equity in Cameroon. But this is only the beginning. With La Rentrée des Héros, our vision is to keep growing, keep innovating, and keep reaching new regions. Who knows – maybe next year, your community will be part of the story. To stay updated, explore our articles, follow us on social media, and don’t hesitate to contact us or make a donation. Every contribution, big or small, fuels the mission to empower the next generation of heroes. Thank you for standing with us. Together, we are shaping brighter futures.

It just keeps growing. 📚 Over 1,400 School Materials Distributed From Saint-Cœur de Marie complex in Omvan to needy pupils in Buea, we’ve distributed more than 1,400 school materials to support learning and academic success. Textbooks for example are essential tools—but for many families, they are unaffordable. We’re closing that gap, one child at a time. 📉 68% Drop in Absenteeism & Dropouts at Omvan Thanks to our continued support in Omvan, we’ve seen 68% fewer absentees and dropouts. Education is no longer a distant dream—it’s becoming a daily reality for more children, especially in rural settings. 🏆 100% Success Rate in Official Exams Yes, you read that right: 100% of students at the Saint-Cœur de Marie complex passed their official exams! Heroes’ Back to School 2025: Why We Chose Ebolowa, South Region of Cameroon
Every year, as the school bells prepare to ring across Cameroon, Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation launches its flagship event: Heroes’ Back to School. After a successful start in the Centre Region, particularly at the Saint-Cœur de Marie complex in Omvan, we asked ourselves a key question for 2025: « Where are we needed most next?« Our answer: Ebolowa I and II, in the South Region. But why Ebolowa? Why not the Littoral, West, or North regions? Why not continue expanding in the Centre? The decision wasn’t random. It was intentional, informed by data, and driven by the specific realities of children in this often-overlooked part of the country. 📍 Ebolowa: A Region at the Crossroads Ebolowa is the capital of the South Region—a region often perceived as more developed due to its political significance and administrative infrastructure. But that perception hides an uncomfortable truth: many children in Ebolowa’s surrounding areas live in rural, underserved communities where access to quality education remains fragile. Despite its urban label, Ebolowa has: In fact, according to regional education data: Why Not Another Region? We considered other regions for this year’s project—but here’s what guided our decision to choose the South Region next: Ebolowa offers both high need and high potential: a population of children eager to learn, teachers hungry for resources, and communities willing to engage—yet lacking the financial and structural tools to thrive. Why Heroes’ Back to School Matters in Ebolowa Back-to-school season is a stressful time for families, particularly those living on less than 1,000 FCFA (1,79 US Dollars)/day. The cost of school bags, books, uniforms, and registration fees adds up quickly. In rural Ebolowa: Our Heroes’ Back to School event aims to address these barriers—not just by handing out materials, but by reminding each child that they matter, and that their dreams deserve a fair chance. What Makes Ebolowa the Right Fit for 2025 We’ve identified strategic schools in both Ebolowa I and II where our impact can be tracked, evaluated, and sustained. Looking Ahead Choosing Ebolowa is about more than geography. It’s about equity—going beyond the obvious, beyond the cities, and reaching children who are often left out of national conversations. It’s about deepening our understanding of rural education in Cameroon, building partnerships with local actors, and designing solutions that grow stronger every year. In 2025, we’re not just going to Ebolowa. We’re investing in its children. We’re championing its teachers. We’re celebrating its future heroes. Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation Heroes aren’t born—they’re supported, celebrated, and educated.
Inside Cameroon’s Education System: Why Understanding It Matters for Real Impact
Each September, classrooms across Cameroon buzz with excitement and anticipation as a new academic year begins. But behind the uniforms, chalkboards, and lesson plans lies a complex educational structure—one shaped by history, dual linguistic systems, and growing challenges. At Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation, our mission is to support children’s education. But to do that effectively, we believe it is essential to deeply understand how Cameroon’s education system works—its calendar, structure, streams, and the specific academic paths that shape young lives. Only then can we identify where support is most needed and design interventions that truly make a difference. 🎓 Two Systems, One Country Cameroon’s education system is unique in that it operates under two parallel systems: This dual setup influences everything from the language of instruction to the curriculum, subjects offered, and even the names and timing of public exams. 📅 Academic Calendar Across both systems, the school year typically runs from early September to late June, and is divided into three terms: Students then have a long break in July and August, which can be a period of rest, labor, or unfortunately, educational regression for those without support. 🏫 Educational Levels Education in Cameroon is structured as follows: 1. Early Childhood Education For children ages 3–5 Known as Nursery or Maternelle 2. Primary Education Lasts for 6 years in both systems Ends with: 3. Secondary Education Split into: Lower Secondary Upper Secondary This stage is where academic streaming begins, and subject choices start to define students’ future careers. 📚 Subject Streams & Specialization in High School In both systems, students are required to select specialized streams or combinations of subjects in high school, typically beginning around age 15 or 16. These streams determine exam eligibility and future academic or vocational paths. Anglophone System: Exams: Francophone System: Computer science and ICT are integrated into both general and technical education streams. Exams: 💻 The Role of ICT and Computer Studies With Cameroon’s growing emphasis on digital literacy, ICT and computer studies are becoming more present in both systems. However, access to equipment, trained teachers, and stable electricity remains uneven—especially in rural areas. ICT is often taught as a complementary subject in general schools and is core in technical and commercial tracks. Yet in many under-resourced communities, computer labs are non-existent or outdated, limiting students’ practical exposure. 🔍Why All of This Matters At Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation, we believe you can’t solve what you don’t understand. Knowing how the education system functions helps us: In Conclusion Cameroon’s education system is both rich in opportunity and riddled with inequalities. Its complexity is not a barrier—but a map. By understanding how children progress through it, what choices they make, and where the cracks lie, we can offer the right support at the right time. Because transforming education isn’t just about good intentions. It’s about informed, thoughtful action. Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation Education. Empowerment. Impact
Everything You Need to Know About “La Rentrée des Héros” – Heroes’ Back to School by Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation
As the school bells ring in September across Cameroon, many families feel the excitement—but also the pressure—of a new academic year. For Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation (PTN Foundation), this season presents a powerful opportunity: a chance to support children’s education, celebrate their progress, and plant seeds of motivation for the journey ahead. That’s exactly how La Rentrée des Héros—Heroes’ Back to School—was born. Where It All Began Founded and officially registered in August 2022, PTN Foundation has always been driven by a mission to transform the lives of children through education. So it made perfect sense to launch an event that not only marked the return to school, but also celebrated the effort and achievements of the children we serve. In rural areas, the start of the school year is often a time of financial strain for parents. Uniforms, books, fees—it all adds up. La Rentrée des Héros was created to relieve some of that burden while also giving children a joyful, empowering experience to look forward to each year. We kicked things off in Omvan, at the Saint-Cœur de Marie complex. Why this school? [Find out HERE]. The day was filled with energy, fun, and purpose: scholarships were distributed, outstanding students received special recognition, and everyone left with renewed confidence for the year ahead. From One School to 25+ What started as a single event in a single school has grown into one of our foundation’s most impactful annual initiatives. La Rentrée des Héros has now become our flagship program—one that brings hope, joy, and tangible support to children and families across regions. This year, with the incredible partnership of Orange Foundation Cameroon, we are taking things to the next level. We’re heading south to Ebolowa, expanding our reach from one school to 25+ schools—and we’re not stopping there. More heroes, more scholarships, more joy. We’re adding new activities, new opportunities, and aiming for an even greater impact. Why It Matters Children in rural communities often lack access to the basic tools and encouragement they need to succeed. La Rentrée des Héros is more than just a back-to-school party—it’s a celebration of resilience, an investment in the future, and a message to every child: You matter. You are a hero. And we believe in you. What’s Next? The momentum is just beginning. With the support of our partners, volunteers, and donors, we aim to expand La Rentrée des Héros to even more regions in the coming years. Every event is a step closer to our vision: a world where no child is left behind because of where they were born or how much their parents earn. Want to join the movement? Donate, volunteer, or sponsor a hero. Because when we invest in our children, we invest in a brighter future for us all. Stay tuned—our heroes are just getting started. 📍 Next Stop: Ebolowa, 2025 🎒 25+ schools, countless dreams ❤️ Because every child deserves a chance to shine Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation Education. Health Begins with Knowledge: The Betta Place Hygiene Workshop Experience
On April 9, 2025, Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation brought together 19 enthusiastic children aged 9 to 14 for a dynamic and educational Hygiene and Healthcare Workshop. Held at the Youth Center Hall of the Nkoabang Parish, this full-day event was part of the Betta Place Project, an initiative dedicated to uplifting underprivileged children in rural areas through education and empowerment. Why This Workshop Mattered In communities where access to healthcare and reliable information is limited, hygiene and disease prevention become crucial life skills. The main objective of this workshop was to raise awareness among children about personal and environmental hygiene, as well as the prevention of common diseases like malaria, typhoid, and cholera. Through practical demonstrations, engaging discussions, and interactive games, the children not only learned valuable lessons — they also had fun doing it. A Step-by-Step Journey of Learning Personal Hygiene (11:30 AM – 12:20 PM) The workshop kicked off with a lively hand-washing demonstration where every child got involved, followed by the distribution of hygiene kits. Each kit included essentials such as soap, a toothbrush and toothpaste, tissues, a nail clipper, snacks, and even mouthwash for the older children. Next was a dental hygiene session, where the kids learned the correct way to brush their teeth — a vital step toward lifelong health. Their smiles said it all! Disease Awareness and Prevention (12:20 PM – 1:00 PM) With the help of colorful educational materials, the children explored how diseases like malaria, typhoid, and cholera are transmitted, recognized, and prevented. This session wasn’t just informative — it was also interactive. A fun Q&A activity allowed the children to test their knowledge while reinforcing what they had learned. Environmental Hygiene (1:00 PM – 1:20 PM) The focus then shifted to the importance of keeping one’s surroundings clean. Practical tips were shared, like washing fruits before eating and keeping surfaces tidy. The session concluded with a cleaning competition, where children were challenged to quickly and thoroughly clean a space — with a prize awarded to the most outstanding participant! Celebrating Effort and Participation Before wrapping up, the children were rewarded for their active participation. The youngest received slates, while older children were gifted pens — small but meaningful tokens of encouragement that acknowledged their dedication and enthusiasm throughout the day. A Warm Ending The workshop concluded in a spirit of community and gratitude. After a prayer and blessing from Father Rodrigue, children and their accompanying adults enjoyed a shared meal. A final group photo captured the joy and togetherness of the day. Reflections and Impact This workshop was more than just a series of lessons — it was a step toward building healthier habits, greater confidence, and a brighter future for every child who attended. The children were highly engaged, and their quick grasp of essential hygiene practices is proof of the power of hands-on, child-centered education. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with both children and adults expressing appreciation for the knowledge shared and the supportive, joyful atmosphere created. Workshops like this remind us that with the right support, our future heroes can — and will — rise to meet their potential.

Betta Place: Moving Forward, Building Futures
At Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation, we’re thrilled to share exciting updates about the next steps in the Betta Place Project. What started as a bold vision to transform the lives of young Cameroonians is now evolving into something even bigger (learn more about the initiation phase of the Betta Place Project). Betta Place is more than an education program; it’s a movement to empower future leaders, equipping them with the skills, knowledge, and resilience they need to tackle challenges like climate change and inequality. Our mission is simple but powerful: to help young people thrive in a changing world while giving them the tools to create positive change in their communities. Education in Rural Cameroon: The Challenge We’re Tackling For many children in Cameroon’s rural areas, school is a luxury they can’t afford. Only 58% of kids regularly attend school, with girls being hit the hardest. Economic struggles and traditional norms often keep girls at home, while climate-related disasters like floods and droughts pull children away from classrooms to help their families survive. But these challenges are not the end of the story—they’re why Betta Place exists. We’re closing the education gap and giving kids the resources and skills they need to overcome barriers. Learn more about the context of education in rural Cameroon and impact of climate change. The Betta Place Vision We believe in a future where every child has the chance to succeed. Betta Place is about building that future, step by step. Here’s how: Education: We cover school fees, provide supplies, and offer tutoring to keep kids in school. Sustainability: Young people learn the importance of solidarity and passing knowledge to the next generation. Sustainable Development: Through hands-on activities, children explore sustainable practices that fit their communities. Empowerment: We prepare them for the future with training in innovative trades and climate resilience. What’s Next for Betta Place? We’re diving into activities that go beyond the classroom, bringing education to life: Workshops That Inspire From climate change awareness to first aid training, these sessions build practical skills. We’re also focusing on hygiene, sanitation, art, and culture—because education is about more than just academics. Discover our Initiation Workshops! Building Sustainable Gardens School and kitchen gardens aren’t just about planting vegetables—they’re teaching tools for sustainable agriculture and a source of food for communities. Passing the Torch Our mentorship program, « Each One Teach One, » ensures older participants share their knowledge with the next generation, spreading empowerment and resilience. Skills for the Future By introducing trades like waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable farming, we’re setting children up for careers that tackle today’s environmental challenges. Who We’re Reaching Our project focuses on regions of Cameroon most affected by climate and social risks. We’re targeting: Direct Beneficiaries: students aged 11–18, chosen for their leadership potential and academic promise. Indirect Beneficiaries: Families, schools, and entire communities benefit from the ripple effect of education and empowerment. Dream Bigger, Aim Higher Betta Place isn’t just about fixing the problems of today—it’s about preparing for the challenges of tomorrow. As we listen, learn, and adapt, we’re ensuring the project keeps growing to meet the needs of Cameroon’s youth. We’re dreaming big, but we can’t do it alone. Be Part of the Betta Place Movement You can help turn this vision into reality! Donate: Your contribution can fund school fees, supplies, and training sessions. Partner with Us: Let’s work together to expand the reach of Betta Place. Share Your Ideas: We value your feedback to help us grow and improve. Join us in empowering Cameroon’s future heroes. Together, we can build a world where every child has a chance to thrive. Let’s make it happen—one hero at a time.
Education in Rural Cameroon: Breaking Down Barriers Together
Education is a powerful tool for change, yet in rural Cameroon, countless children are still missing out on its life-changing opportunities. Despite some progress over the years, the challenges remain immense—schools without teachers, children learning without books, and girls fighting just to stay in school. These obstacles don’t just hold individuals back; they limit entire communities and the country’s future. At Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a chance to learn, no matter where they’re born. Let’s take a closer look at the hurdles rural communities face and how, together, we can overcome them. The Struggles They Face 1. Schools Without Basics Many children in rural areas don’t have a school nearby. Even when schools exist, they lack basic necessities like textbooks, desks, or trained teachers. Resources are scarce, and outdated textbooks fail to prepare students for modern job markets. By the end of primary school, only 47% of students can read a simple sentence, and just 32% can solve basic math problems (World Bank). 2. Girls Are Left Behind Cultural norms, early marriages, and financial struggles often prevent girls from continuing their education. This limits their opportunities and keeps entire families trapped in cycles of poverty. According to UNESCO, in 2019, the net enrollment rate for girls in primary school was 83.5%, compared to 92.4% for boys. At the secondary level, only 33.5% of girls were enrolled compared to 42.1% of boys, and dropout rates for girls were significantly higher at 36.5% versus 26.2% for boys. 3. Overcrowded Schools Many classrooms in rural areas are overcrowded, with a student-teacher ratio of 49:1, far exceeding the recommended 30:1. This means less personalized attention for students and poorer learning outcomes. 4. No Path to Jobs Unemployment among youth in Cameroon is a staggering 13%, and many graduates lack the skills needed for sustainable livelihoods. Vocational programs are either unavailable or poorly aligned with market demands, leaving young people underprepared for the workforce. 6. Conflict and Instability The Anglophone crisis has further disrupted education. Over 700,000 students have been deprived of schooling due to attacks on schools and the ongoing conflict, creating a generation of children left behind. The Power of Solutions Despite these challenges, hope is not lost. Pierre Thierry Noah Foundation is tackling these issues head-on by: – Improving Infrastructure: Renovating schools, equipping classrooms, and ensuring students have access to quality learning materials. – Empowering Girls: Providing scholarships, raising awareness about gender equality, and supporting girls to stay in school. – Vocational Training: Launching programs to equip young people with job-ready skills tailored to current market demands. – Community Engagement: Teaching families about the value of education, health, climate change and art&culture to create a lasting impact. – Advocating for Peace: Collaborating with local organizations to keep education accessible in conflict-affected regions. Why Education Matters Lack of education doesn’t just affect individual children—it perpetuates poverty, gender inequality, and even health crises. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the lack of education made it harder for communities to understand and follow health guidelines, leading to higher transmission rates. Education is also a critical defense against social unrest, reducing the likelihood of youth falling into extremist ideologies or exploitative labor. Be Part of the Solution Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and thrive. You can help us make this vision a reality. – Learn More: Dive deeper into the work we’re doing to transform education in rural Cameroon. – Donate: Every dollar goes toward building classrooms, training teachers, and keeping children in school. – Partner With Us: Your organization can play a vital role in expanding our reach and impact. Together, we can break barriers and unlock the potential of every child.
