Where Learning Comes Alive: Inside the « La Rentrée des Héros 2025 » Monitoring Mission

From March 25 to 27, our team, in collaboration with Orange Foundation Cameroon, conducted a field monitoring mission as part of the La Rentrée des Héros 2025 project.

The mission took us to six primary schools: About, Amvam Yevol, Azem, Angono’owo, Bipkwae Yemessem, and Ndengue – all in Ebolowa, in the Southern region of Cameroon. Beyond a simple visit, this was an opportunity to assess progress, strengthen relationships, and witness firsthand the real impact of our collective efforts.

Monitoring What Matters

This follow-up mission focused on three key components of the project:

  • The monitoring of school canteens provided to the institutions
  • The follow-up of pupils who received complete school kits
  • The evaluation of the implementation of the “Learning by Doing” (Apprendre en Faisant) methodology introduced to CM1 and CM2 teachers

It is one thing to launch a project. It is another to return, observe, adjust, and ensure that impact is sustained over time. For us, monitoring is not a formality—it is a responsibility.

Learning by Doing: Education in Motion

A major highlight of the mission was the practical implementation of the “Learning by Doing” approach. Together with teachers and pupils, we organized engaging and educational activities structured around five core themes:

1. Market & Calculations

Students explored the relationship between negotiation skills and key economic concepts such as cost price, selling price, and profit. Through simulation exercises, they connected everyday market experiences to mathematical reasoning and financial literacy.

2. Hygiene & Sanitation

An interactive workshop introduced children to practical hygiene solutions, including the use of household charcoal ash as an economical and ecological substitute for soap when soap is not readily available. This session emphasized resourcefulness and health awareness.

3. Agriculture

Pupils were introduced to basic agricultural knowledge, reinforcing the importance of food production, sustainability, and local resources in their communities.

4. Oral Expression

Through songs and storytelling, students developed confidence, creativity, and communication skills—reminding us that education is not only about numbers and formulas, but also about voice and expression.

5. Conflict Management & Civic Education

Interactive discussions and role-play exercises helped students understand cooperation, respect, and peaceful conflict resolution—essential foundations for responsible citizenship.

Education Beyond the Classroom

This mission reaffirmed a simple truth: when education is practical, contextual, and engaging, children thrive.

The smiles, participation, and enthusiasm we witnessed across the six schools confirm that meaningful partnerships and sustained monitoring create lasting change.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Orange Foundation Cameroon for their collaboration and commitment to empowering communities through education.
